Germany Celebrates The Russian Olympic Committee Suspension For Doping

◼️ De Maiziere, considered "proportionate" to allow Russian "clean" athletes to participate in these Games under a neutral flag.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière on Wednesday celebrated the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend the Russian Olympic Committee at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games because, he said, "whoever uses doping systematically does not have site in the Olympic family ".

Speaking to the media in Berlin, De Maiziere, responsible for Germany's sport policy, also considered "proportionate" that Russian "clean" athletes be allowed to participate in these Games under a neutral flag.

In his opinion, the Olympic flag sends the message that "whoever is clean can participate in the Games", but "to fraud and systematic deception we must give a systematic response"

After the so-called Schmid Report confirmed the "systematic anti-doping rule violation in Russia", the IOC executive took action in Lausanne (Switzerland) on Tuesday.

"It has been decided to suspend the Russian Olympic Committee with immediate effect, as well as to individually invite Russian athletes to compete in the PyeongChang Games under the name of 'Russian Olympic Athletes' and under the Olympic flag," he said in a statement.
